 We had another interesting trip to Surfaces, the national floorcovering show.  A representative from Helios Carpet told us that they follow colors in OPI nailpolish to see what will be trending in home furnishings.  Who knew?  And since Helios is in the forefront of floorcovering design, it made sense.  That's where many of the shades of gray are coming from.  Also important at market are new, softer yet hardwearing carpet fibers.  It seems you can have it all!  Shags are making a big comeback.  We don't expect to see a lot of them on the Vineyard because of the sand, but some of our customers are choosing shag for bedrooms due to their luxurious feel. We picked up a lot of new area rugs for spring and summer, for indoors and out, in lots of colors as well as neutral, natural looks.  LVT or Luxury Vinyl Tiles continue to be the hot item in hard surfaces in wood and tile looks.  They are durable yet fashionable and the tile styles can be grouted or not for a fresher look.

 Brent and I just returned from Surfaces 2012, the annual floorcovering market in Las Vegas. This is where the manufacturers of all things related to floors show off their newest offerings.  It's always exciting and invigorating for both of us!

TrendsGray is the big neutral this year, a refreshing change from the khakis, camels and beiges of the past several seasons.  Shades range from cool silvery hues to warmer mineral tones.  We also saw pops of color such of tangerine, spring green and cobalt blue, perhaps signaling optimism after this long recession. -------------- Geometric shapes such as circles, stripes and intertwined links are popular in area rugs, as well as squiggles and swirls.  Organic patterns such as ikats and botanical prints were also shown.------------------In carpet, the story is soft.  New fibers that feel like silk but are just as durable as traditional nylons are everywhere.  Wool styles are as popular as ever for their duraility, styling and eco-friendliness.  Shags and plush constructions in all fibers are making a comeback, challenging the dominance of looped styles that have been so prevalent here on the Vineyard.--------------------In hard surfaces, laminate, LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tile) and resilient vinyl flooring continue to mimic natural looks of stone, wood and tile.  Improved technology makes them durable and easy to care for, perfect for busy families and vacation homes.---------------------Our new inventory and samples will start arriving in February.  We invite you to come see the latest in floor fashions - in our newly remodeled showroom.  We're proud of our selection and are sure to have something just right for you!
